Pro-duterte lawyers to push impeachment complaint vs VP Robredo despite calls from PRRD
A group of lawyers still considers filing an impeachment complaint against Vice President Leni Robredo amid the call of President Rodrigo Duterte against the said plan.
The “Impeach VP Leni Team” argues that the video message of Vice President Leni Robredo about the government’s war on drugs campaign is not appropriate.
The said video was shown at the annual meeting of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs last week.
“If you notice before, there was a statement by Leni Robredo saying that if the murders do not stop, she will encourage people from the outside to intervene,” Impeach VP Leni Team spokesperson Atty. Bruce Rivera said.
DILG Epimaco Densing III also said, “What they have been doing systematically has created economic sabotage to our country. We should not let that pass.”
Thus, the group plans to file the complaint before Congress when it resumes session in May.
This, despite calls from President Rodrigo Duterte to drop the issue.
“Look, we just had an election. Guys, lay off. Stop it. You can do other things, but do not tinker with the structure of government. I will not countenance it. She has been elected,” the President had said at a press conference after he returned from an official trip in Thailand.
A known Robredo ally, former president Benigno Aquino III said the impeachment process should be fair and should not be based on the so-called numbers game.
But former senator “Nene” Pimentel explained that Robredo’s statement against the administration’s war on drugs is not an impeachable offense unless the vice president has done any violation of the Constitution.
For her part, the Vice President said she respects the move of the lawyers.
“We cannot prevent them from filing. As for me, I hope the hatred will not get in the way of the more important things. Because now, that’s what seems to be happening,” she said. — Joan Nano | UNTV News & Rescue
