GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines - Communist rebels set on fire two hauler trucks of a banana exporting firm in an attack in Barangay Sinawal here before dawn Thursday.
Barangay officials had told responding police probers that the atrocity was perpetrated by a band of about 50 New People’s Army (NPA) guerillas led by Alvin Casamorin, also known as Commander Rayray.
The rebels, who arrived on separate vehicles in Barangay Sinawal, immediately barged into the processing plant there of the Amadeo Banana Company, disarmed security guards and immediately burned two large trucks parked nearby.
Superintendent Romeo Galgo Jr., spokesman of the Police Regional Police-12, said the NPAs immediately escaped after the arson attack bringing with them the firearms of the firm’s security guards.
The NPAs used gasoline in burning the two trucks, according to police investigators.
The rebels were last seen fleeing towards the border of Gen. Santos City and South Cotabato province.
