Air strike launched in Zamboanga del Norte
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The military launched an air strike against 30 rebels who attacked an army detachment yesterday in a village in Sirawai town, Zamboanga del Norte, according to the police and Mayor Gamar Janihim.
The lost command rebels wearing military uniforms initially harassed and fired at the detachment of the Bravo Company under the 42nd Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Doña Cecilia.
Police said the air strike was conducted about past 1 p.m. after the rebels were monitored on the high ground but later sought cover in a Pamana building in Brgy. Panabutan. Two rebels were reportedly wounded, initial reports said.
Authorities could not immediately tell if the harassment was part of a sympathy or diversionary attack.
