Even with sweep of UE, UST still rues lack of go-to player
MANILA, Philippines — Wanted: Leader for UST.
The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses tallied their first win in Season 79 with a straight set romp of University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-9, 25-22, 25-23, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
But for head coach Emilio "Kung Fu" Reyes Jr., no one is still stepping up.
"Equal yung level of skills regardless kung mas bata (sa kanila) or seasoned players (yung kalaban," Reyes told press after the game.
"Missing link padin ngayon (ang leader). Yung pwede namin ipanalo, natatalo kasi walang may gustong mag command sa loob," the UST coach added.
Reyes is bugged by the fact that no one is stepping forward to lead the squad despite having three past and current team captains in his lineup.

There's the returning Pamela Lastimosa, last year's team captain EJ Laure and current captain Sisi Rondina.
Reyes said the leader doesn’t have to be a high-scoring player, but that she must have the leadership quality.
"Mas gustuhin ko pa na 'yung skills ang problema namin kesa sa leadership. Kasi i-enhance mo lang yung skills eh pero yung leadership nasa tao eh. Mahirap i-instill kung kulang talaga," Reyes continued.
Ria Meneses paced the Tigresses with 13 points while Laure and Rondina added 12 apiece. Lastimosa was limited to just five points.
The Tigresses will next face the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons on Sunday at the same venue.
