BOC formally turns over to PDEA P5.5 million worth of shabu seized at NAIA

The Bureau of Customs or BOC has formally turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency or PDEA the 5.5 million peso worth of packets of shabu confiscated at the Aquino international airport.

BOC confiscated candy wrappers from the DHL warehouse commodity at NAIA last January 20.

The items were supposed to be sent to a certain Analyn Dionisio in Doha Qatar from Randy Olivares of Sta. Cruz, Manila.

In a separate operation, a shipment from sender Mbiko Madama Aminata from the Republic of Congo arrived on March 2 for Joseph Amistad of Tabunok, Talisay Cebu province.

The 1.2 kilograms of shabu was concealed inside wigs which were placed in a back pack.

Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno of the BOC Enforcement Group said the agency is now investigating those involved in the smuggling of the contraband to and fro the country.

“Actually, the names are fictitious, but our search continues”, said Deputy Commissioner Nepomuceno.

“PDEA is searching for senders and consignees. We are verifying the area of origin and destination” said PDEA agent Christopher Macairap.

The perpetrators will face charges for violating RA no. 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972 and RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization Act.

BOC has intensified its operations to fast track the filing of charges against smugglers of contrabands.

“We are now studying that. We have support on how to add more K-9 units to improve the detection of contrabands like illegal drugs and explosives”, Dep. Comm. Nepomuceno said. – Aiko Miguel | UNTV News and Rescue
