MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald dela Rosa has confirmed receiving kidnap threats in Central Visayas.

General Dela Rosa assured that the PNP is taking steps to prevent any incidents of kidnapping or abduction.

“Yes, meron tayong preparation for that, I was briefed by the RD (regional director) of PRO 7 na mayroon nga silang na monitor na ganun. Then may kaukulang aksyon na ginawa ang RD ng PRO 7 na ma thwart ang mga threat na ito (Yes, we have preparation for that. I was briefed by the RD of PRO 7 that they have monitored reports about possible abduction. The RD of PRO 7 has already taken necessary steps to thwart this threat),” he said.

PCSupt. Noli Taliño, the regional director of PRO-7, meanwhile said, cops in Central Visayas remain on full alert status.

“We are not taking this information lightly but our counter measures are still in place. PNP security and our AFP counterparts are coordinating,” PCSupt. Taliño said.

The police are also coordinating with hotel and resort owners to ensure the safety of vacationers.

“Nakahanda naman tayo rito (We are prepared for this) and we are assuring the public especially the tourists, foreign and local tourists, that our security system is in place together with our AFP counterparts,” PCSupt. Noli Taliño added.

General Dela Rosa has not detailed the contents of the said intelligence report, but he assured the public that the PNP is ready to face any threats to the country’s security.

“Huwag kayo matakot (Don’t be afraid). I’m giving assurance to the people na yung ating mga pulis sa Central Visayas ay ready (that our cops in Central Visayas are ready). Kaya wag kayo matakot pumunta sa mga lugar na yun (So, don’t be afraid to go to those places). Although may advisory sila (Although they have an advisory), that’s their role, to advise their citizens,” Dela Rosa said.

It can be recalled that the US embassy has warned American citizens in Central Visayas to take necessary precaution.

This was after the US authorities received “unsubstantiated yet credible” information that terrorist groups are present in Central Visayas.

General Dela Rosa also reminds tourists to avoid going to areas where kidnapping incidents have occured and areas known to have the presence of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). — Mon Jocson | UNTV News & Rescue
