Magnitude 5.2 quake, aftershocks hit Lanao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 quake shook Wao, Lanao del Sur on Easter Sunday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake jolted the province at 4:40 a.m. Its epicenter was traced 14 kilometers north 59° West of Wao, Lanao Del Sur with a depth of focus of 3 kilometers.
The tremor was felt at Intensity V in Wao, Lanao del Sur; Intensity IV in Kalilangan, Bukidnon; Intensity III in Cotabato City; and Intensity II in Cagayan de Oro City, Pangantucan, Maramag, Valencia City and Quezon, Bukidnon. On the other hand, Alabel, Sarangani and Mambajao, Camiguin experienced the quake at Intensity I.
Phivolcs categorizes an Intensity V quake as strong meaning it was felt by most people indoors and outdoors and it could awaken sleeping residents.
The agency said there was no damage from the quake but it warned of aftershocks.
As of posting, at least seven aftershocks already occurred in Wao.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs also recorded earthquakes in Sarangani, Davao Occidental; Mabini, Batangas; Biri, Northern, Samar; Rapu-rapu, Albay; and Looc, Occidental Mindoro. All tremors were determined to be tectonic in origin.
