SMB meant to win Game 3, Star’s Victolero concedes

MANILA, Philippines — Star coach Chito Victolero thought Game Three of their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semis series against San Miguel was simply meant for the Beermen.
Losing to the Beermen via a gut-wrenching triple by Marcio Lassiter, Victolero couldn’t help but accept fate.
“San Miguel eh. Parang sinwerte sila sa bola. I think para sa kanila ‘yun,” Victolero offered. “Siguro 'di naman papasok ‘yun kung 'di para sa kanila,”
The Hotshots—through the valiant effort of import Ricardo Ratliffe—looked in control and were poised to take home the victory until Lassiter put them on the driver seat with a little over a second left in the game.
“ Nandun yung depensa, nandun lahat—ultimo challenge ni Justin nandon din kaso pumasok pa rin so para sa San Miguel talaga,” the first-year Star coach said.
This is the second time Star lost by a hairline to San Miguel in the series.

The circumstance only changed one thing though, according to Victolero. And it's not their hunger, but rather, their outlook.
“Of course siyempre di pwedeng ‘di ka mafrustrate dun kahit papano. Yung breaks, kumbaga, na samin na yung game eh, kaya lang, dahil dun sa last shot, so nakuha nila. But we cannot dwell on that,” he said.
“Right now we're down by one game, so do or die na kami. Yung sense of urgency kailangan namin maramdaman ngayon. We need to prepare hard for the next game kasi 'pag natalo kami, tapos na yung series,” he explained.
“But we're still positive,” Victolero noted. “Kailangan lang namin mag-move forward, mag-move on. Kumbaga parang nabreak [kami] ng girlfriend ko, nasaktan ako, so kailangan namin mag-move forward diba.
“‘Di pwedeng ‘yung experience na ‘to ang laging nasa minds namin,” he closed.
Victolero and Star will have a chance to prove that on Friday when they will try to stave off elimination at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
