Nearly 400 inmates in Sta. Rosa benefit from UNTV-MCGI’s medical mission
LAGUNA, Philippines — There are more than 1,000 prisoners huddling inside the nine prison cells of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Sta. Rosa Laguna.
Each detention cell can accommodate 40 to 50 prisoners only.
But because of lack of detention facilities and plenty of arrests, the number of prisoners continues to rise.
Many prisoners can easily contract illnesses like skin disease because of extreme heat inside the prison cells.
“We are contracting illnesses. Sometimes, it’s difficult to breathe inside. Like in my case, I contracted illness because it’s difficult to breathe inside the jail,” said an inmate named Rey.
“I contracted chicken pox. It just came out. We are thankful because the medical mission reached Sta. Rosa Laguna, we would like to thank brother Eli Soriano,” said an inmate named Ronald.
They are just among the almost 400 prisoners who benefited from the medical and legal mission brought by UNTV, Members Church of God International, and the TV station’s partners in public service.
“We would like to thank you because you gave us the opportunity…thank you to the doctors and lawyers who helped us and provided our needs,” said Banjo, an inmate.
“We are very thankful for this kind of activity. I hope it would continue and would also reach other jails nationwide, not just in Sta. Rosa,” Warden JSupt. Ruel Bobadilla said. – Joan Nano | UNTV News & Rescue
