‘Ex-VP Binay a changed man’
MANILA, Philippines - An evangelical prelate yesterday lauded former vice president Jejomar Binay for being a “changed man” after actively participating in church.
Bishop Noel Pantoja, national director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, confirmed that Binay, who has been charged for the alleged overpriced construction of a Makati City Hall parking building, has been actively attending Bible studies after his term ended last year.
“God’s word is alive, powerful and sharper than any two edged sword penetrating a person’s soul, spirit and heart. Any person who hears and applies the truth of God’s word will experience renewal and powerful life change,” said Pantoja, also the head of the Philippine Bible Society.
Pantoja said one of their pastors informed him about the regular attendance of Binay in their church’s Bible study sessions.
Asked if Binay has indeed become a “changed man” after joining the church, he said that “only God can attest to true personal and spiritual transformation after reading the Bible.”
Still, Pantoj believes that such changes will be evident through a person’s “deeds and actions” and will be noticed by people around him.

As to the charges against the former vice president, Pantoja said he is sure that Binay, like all accused, will be given a chance to answer the charges against him.
“Former VP Binay will be given his day in the courts of the land to answer all charges against him. If he is guilty of any charges or not guilty of anything, then justice or vindication will be afforded to him,” he said.
In a recent television interview, Binay said he is now closer to God.
The Binay family has been reportedly attending regular Tuesday Bible meetings at Don Bosco Center in Makati. They also went on a pilgrimage in Israel last May.
Binay served as Makati mayor from 1988 to 1998 and 2001 to 2010. He was elected vice president in 2010 before losing in the presidential elections last year.
