COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Agents nabbed two large-scale drug traffickers and dismantled a drug den in separate operations here and in General Santos City in the past six days.
Juvenal Azurin, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said Wednesday that alleged drug dealer Maira Akmad, who is now in their custody, fell Tuesday night in a sting operation in Barangay Rosary Heights 10 in Cotabato City.
Akmad’s husband, Saidali, also allegedly engaged in large-scale peddling of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) managed to run away, according to Azurin.
He is now subject of a joint police-PDEA manhunt.
A team of PDEA-ARMM agents also nabbed a drug den operator, Sherma Angkay Ampuan, in another operation following the arrest of Akmad.
Ampuan and two others, Ibrahim Dela Cerna Talusob and Rico Lim Badilla, were caught sniffing shabu together in a drug den in Barangay Bagua III in Cotabato City.
PDEA-ARMM agents learned of the drug-trafficking activities of Talusob from his neighbors who led them to the hideout.
The two fruitful PDEA-ARMM operations in Cotabato City Tuesday night were preceded by the arrest in General Santos City of James Carigaba in Banga town in South Cotabato last August 30.
Carigaba is allegedly among top ten dealers of shabu in Banga who also has contacts in South Cotabato’s nearby Surallah and Santo Niño towns and in the provincial capital, Koronadal City.
Gil Castro, director of PDEA for Region 12, said the agents who arrested Carigaba recovered shabu from his possession.
Castro said Carigaba will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
