List of prohibited fireworks

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed to strictly implement the Executive Order (EO) no. 28.

The EO signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last January seeks to regulate the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

The order states that allowed firecrackers can only be used at firework display areas designated by local government units or LGUs.

While allowed pyrotechnic devices can be used outside of firework designated areas.

According to the PNP, firecrackers with gunpowder content exceeding two grams or 1.3 teaspoons is strictly prohibited.

The prohibited firecrackers include Super Lolo, Whistlebomb, Goodbye Earth, Atomic Big Triangulo, Piccolo, Judas’ belt and other powerful fireworks imported from other countries.

Firecrackers with hazardous chemicals are also not allowed, like watusi.

“We will lead the arrest of individuals violating the EO no.28,” Acting PCRG Director PS/Supt. Rhodel Sermonia said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Fireworks Association complained of the more than 300 containers of banned fireworks smuggled into the country’s ports yearly.

The group said these smuggled fireworks are being sold on sidewalks without the permission of authorities, which kill the livelihood of legitimate fireworks producers and vendors.

“What will happen to the industry? Come January, when many are hurt, they will blame us again,” Philippine Fireworks Association President Jovenson Ong said.

Melchora Habal is an employee of a fireworks factory.

She said the smuggling in the country of banned fireworks affects their livelihood, their only source of income to support their two children.

“Although it’s painful, one of my children was not able to go to school this year because we were not able to work overtime. Overtime work gives us huge income. However, we can no longer do it. The industry has really weakened,” Habal said.

Meanwhile, some local government units release an ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks in public places like Quezon City and Las Piñas. – Mon Jocson | UNTV News & Rescue
