La Salle ousts UST for 9th straight UAAP women's volleyball finals stint

MANILA, Philippines — The De La Salle University Lady Spikers for are in the UAAP women's volleyball finals for the ninth straight season.
 
The Lady Spikers foiled the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, 25-14, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, in their UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament Final Four matchup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao Saturday.
 
La Salle's net defense proved too much for the TIgresses as they suffocated the UST attackers with 17 big blocks.
 
Majoy Baron led DLSU with 17 points built on 13 attacks and four blocks.
 
UST's EJ Laure went down with a left ankle sprain in the third set, but the Tigresses managed to extend the match to a fourth set.
 
In the fourth set, however, La Salle punished UST's floor defense with loaded serves and blazed to an 11-1 start.
 
Team captain Sisi Rondina led the Tigresses, who returned to the Final Four after a four-year drought, with 16 points.
 
The Lady Spikers will now wait for the winner of the Ateneo-FEU semifinal matchup.
