President Rodrigo Duterte
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte wants the Lower House of Congress to conduct a special session to discuss the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
“I will now stake my condition. I will work very hard for it. I will ask Congress to [hold] a special session just to hear you talk about this in Congress,” he said.
However, the House leadership explained there is no need for such session.
“We will request the President that for sure there is no need for a special session and we will try to finish it before we adjourn on March 21,” House Majority Floor Leader Rep. Rudy Fariñas said.
According to Fariñas, the hearings being conducted by three House committees are ongoing in order to pass the proposed BBL on its target deadline.
A House committee is also set to visit various Muslim areas to conduct the hearings so as to get the opinions of the people living there.
“If I am not mistaken there are several trips already for December,” Fariñas said.
Also included in the new version of BBL is the opt-in provision, where several areas in the country may be included in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region that the government targets to create. – Grace Casin | UNTV News & Rescue
