NBA: Curry tallies 43 as Warriors crush Clippers

Stephen Curry scored 43 points as the Golden State Warriors recorded their most dominant victory in another record-setting season with a 144-98 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

Curry was especially dangerous in the third quarter, when he drained five three pointers en route to 25 points in the period.

With the game firmly in hand, the Warriors saw no reason to risk injury to their superstar and sat him for the entire fourth quarter.

The 46-point margin of victory was the Warriors' biggest of the season while the Clippers hadn't lost by more than 26 this year.

This was Curry's first game at home since being named a starter for the 2017 NBA all-star game.

It marked his third 40-point game of the season and he came tantalizingly close to his season high of 46 points, set in November against New Orleans.

Curry swished a buzzer-beater from near half court at the end of the second quarter but there was plenty more where that came from.

He connected on eight of his 11 shots, including five of his eight three-point attempts in the third quarter as the Warriors compiled a 117-74 lead.

Kevin Durant contributed 23 points and a team-high seven assists, and Klay Thompson had 16 points for the Warriors, who notched their fifth straight home win.

Curry, Durant and Thompson combined for 14-for-22 shooting from beyond the arc as last year's NBA finals runners-up made half their 34 overall attempts from three-point range.

Curry also found time for a team-high nine rebounds and six assists.

The Clippers dropped to 1-4 since losing star guard Chris Paul to injury despite having Blake Griffin back in the lineup. Griffin, who finished with 20 points, was playing in his second game since returning from knee injury.

J.J. Redick added 13 points for the Clippers, who haven't beaten the Warriors in the regular season since Christmas Day in 2014.
