MANILA, Philippines – Personnel of Manila Police District arrested a city hall employee for showing off his gun at a resto-bar in Tondo on Thursday night, June 14.

The man identified as Rodelio Reyes, 51, is currently employed as a clerk at Manila City Hall.

Police said a concerned citizen reported Reyes making a scene with his gun while on a drinking spree inside the bar. Authorities immediately launched “Oplan Bakal” (surprise anti-contraband campaign) to arrest Reyes.

“Nag-conduct kami doon sa area ng resto-bar ng Oplan Bakal kasi hindi naman alam kung sino iyong subject. So pagpunta namin doon, naaktuhan naman namin na nilalaro niya talaga iyong baril,” said PSInsp. Edwin Fuggan.

(We conducted Oplan Bakal at the resto-bar because we didn’t know who the subject was. When we got there, we caught him playing with his gun.)

Authorities confiscated Reyes’ 9mm pistol and its license. Reyes admitted being intoxicated and pulling out a gun. He will face charges for alarm and scandal, violation of the Comprehensive Law of Firearms and Ammunition, and likely an administrative case for being a government employee. – Asher Cadapan Jr.
