UNTV Cup Season 6 champion Senate Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will try to keep their share in the Group-A lead when they clash against their respective rivals in the seventh edition of the UNTV Cup on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.

The Senate will go up against the Department of Justice Boosters at two in the afternoon while the AFP will collide with the rookie PITC Global Traders at 5 p.m.

The Defenders and Cavaliers are looking to score their third straight wins in the ongoing elimination rounds.

Senate Coach Mike Fermin said his team spent the last two weeks conditioning their minds and bodies in preparation for the contest with the Boosters.

“Tuluy-tuloy lang ang training, conditioning… more on conditioning, polish pa rin sa depensa kasi may lapses pa rin… actually kung di kami maka-depensa di kami maka-iskor,” Coach Mike Fermin said.

(We continue to train, condition… more on conditioning, polishing our defense because we still have lapses. Actually if we don’t run defense we can’t score,” Coach Mike Fermin said.

AFP Coach CPL Cornelio ‘Sonny’ Manucat, meanwhile, motivates his players to hold on to their instincts as they prepare to go against the swift-footed and lithe Global Traders.

The PITC has been gunning for their first win after suffering consecutive defeats in their last two matches.

“May tendency kasi na mag-relax every time pagka nakikita nila na kaya nila kalaban, which is bad for the team kasi madadala mo yan, sabi ko killer instinct lang all the time and hopefully, we take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we win the game,” AFP Cavaliers Coach CPL Cornelio “Sonny” Manucat said.

(We tend to relax when we think the opponent’s easy. It’s actually bad for the team. I told them we need to maintain the killer instinct. We need to take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we’ll win the game.)

“Along the way, we’ll be better, this is a new team… it’s very promising marami pa… next time we’ll be bouncing back again and we will try to win it this time,” PITC Global Traders Head Coach Victor Ycasiano said.

(Along the way, we’ll be better, this is a new team… it’s very promising… we still have a lot to give… next time we’ll be bouncing back again and we will try to win it this time.)

Fresh from their morale-boosting win over the Ombudsman Graft Busters, the PhilHealth Plus is eyeing to claim a second win when they tangle with the robust Malacañang-PSC Kamao at three p.m.

Malacañang is also shooting for a third straight win to share the top spot in Group-B with the National Housing Authority.

“Malacañang is a very good team, malalaki sila kumpleto ang team nila. Siguro ang bentahe namin, yung puso ng players namin. We will be inspired to play our best for our beneficiaries and of course sa mga supporters namin sa PhilHealth Plus,” Coach Delio Aseron said.
