Honasan accepts position of DICT Chief
Senator Gringo Honasan
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Gringo Honasan on Friday (November 9) accepted the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte to head the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Honasan said his decision was in support of the Duterte administration’s effort to provide better service for the benefit of the Filipino people.
“For a better Philippines, a better government, for the Filipino People, and for a better future for our most precious children; I have decided to accept the offer of the President to help lead the DICT,” he said in a statement.
The President confirmed that he invited Honasan to join his Cabinet to help the administration.
“Ako naman, I invited him. Sabi ko, if you aren’t doing anything and if you will not run again, so why don’t you join me in our quest for a better Philippines and a better government. Yes that is true,” the President said in a recent press interview.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, meanwhile, extended Malacañang’s congratulations to the Senator.
Malacañang is confident that Honasan will be able to accomplish the administration’s objectives in the agency especially now that the government has already chosen the country’s provisional third telco player.
“With the entry of a provisional new major player in the telecommunications industry, we are confident that the senator would provide good direction and sound management to the DICT, consistent with the President’s priority programs beneficial to Filipino consumers in the areas of information, communications and technology,” Panelo said in a statement Friday.
“We wish him all the best as he undertakes genuine reforms in the DICT,” he said further.
