Mary Katrantzou now open to designing 'more revealing' clothes
Mary Katrantzou has vowed to design collections that are "a little more revealing" in the wake of her collaboration with Victoria's Secret.
The London-based fashion star collaborated with designers at the U.S. lingerie brand for the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which took place in New York on Thursday night (08Nov18), with her floral collection able to be worn as undergarments or clothing.
Now having worked with the sexy label, Katrantzou has been inspired to reassess the way she approaches her own personal designs.
"The relationship you have with your underwear is so different, that when you're designing you want to feel comfortable," she explained in an interview with WWD before the spectacle. "It's made me look at a woman's body differently. I wanted to look at our own collection and start to open things up a little bit - be a little more revealing."
The Greek designer certainly made a statement, particularly when it came to the iconic Victoria's Secret wings, which she transformed into vibrant parachute-like capes so the models were "still flying, but differently".
And considering that she had yet to design a bra when she got the call from the lingerie giant, she admitted she was surprised her name had ever been in the running.
"It's so unexpected, it's so interesting," the 35-year-old smiled. "Sometimes you have certain things you want to happen and you manifest to happen and this something that came out of nowhere...That conversation (with Victoria's Secret) was interesting, just because of the values we both share about empowering women."
The 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will air in the U.S. on the ABC network on 2 December.
