Harmie Constantino eyes number 2 as Philippine junior golf unfolds
MANILA, Philippines — Harmie Constantino hopes to buck a strong cast and the heat as she guns for a second straight crown in the Philippine Junior Amateur Golf Championship beginning today (April 3) at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite.
Constantino bested a crack field to rule the WExpress RVF Cup in Canlubang last February with the diminutive shotmaker, who has also won a tournament in the ladies pro circuit, upbeat of her chances in the 72-hole championship sponsored by MVP Sports Foundation and held as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour.
But a slew of local and Korean challengers will be out to foil her bid, including Cebu’s Weifang Gao and Junia Gabasa, Nicole Abelar, Sofia Legaspi, Monica Mandario and Kayla Nocum.
Young Laure Duque is also in the fold, raring to pull one over the fancied names in the 17-and-under division, along with Koreans Rho Hyun Ji, Kwon Taeyon, Jang Yun Ji and Kim Seo Young.
