MANILA, Philippines — Debuting Janisa Johnson erupted with 31 points as BaliPure-National University upended Petro Gazz, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26, 22-25, 15-12, to bounce back from an opening-game loss in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.
The power-hitting American fired 27 hits, including the match-clinching kill off a combination play, and swung four aces in her game-high output to lead the way for the Water Defenders, who thus recovered from a 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25 loss against the Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons last week.
Princess Robles came through with 17 points while Alexis Matthews chalked up 15 markers to back up Johnson, who missed their first outing in the season-opening conference of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Asics and Mikasa.
Johnson only arrived Tuesday night last week after fulfilling her commitments in a league in France.
