Fil-Chinese groups hold golf fundraiser
MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. will hold a charity golf tournament as part of their effort to help develop the games of junior golfers and at the same time support the programs of the Philippine Sports Institute of the Philippine Sports Commission.
Dubbed the Sino-Filipino Friendship Day golf tournament, the event will be played on May 28 at Wack Wack with a huge field expected to see action.
Sanctioned by the World Amateur Golfers Championship, the tournament will have a double shotgun start. Jungolfers and their parents tee off at 6 a.m., and FCAAF members and guests at 12 noon.
“This is our way of showing support to the Filipino athletes,” said FCAAF president William Gosiaco, whose federation will have golf as the kickoff event for the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day on June 9 to be followed by competitions in badminton, basketball, cycling and volleyball.
The event’s chief backer is Lucio Tan, with Philippine Airlines Lines (PSI), Tanduay, Asia Brewery and Great Volume Phl.
Sen. JV Ejercito has been invited to hit the ceremonial drive with Rep. Jericho Nograles of PBA partly list, FCAAF sec-gen Jose Sy, FFCCC president Domingo Yap and Gosiaco.
Jungolf League president Chona dela Paz will lead the 6 a.m. ceremonial tee along with Jungolf Federation of the Philippines corporate secretary Tiffany Copok, FCAAF director and golf chairman Francis Dy and tournament coordinator Oliver Gan.
