MANILA, Philippines — If fighting for flag and country is not enough of a motivation for the Philippines men's national 3x3 basketball Team, one of the chief backers of the team throws down another incentive.
On top of the event sponsorship, Chooks-to-Go has just committed to rewarding each player of Team Philippines -- composed of Troy Rosario, Roger Pogoy, Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle -- a substantial amount in every win they would tally in the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup.
"This is just our way of showing appreciation for the sacrifices made by our players," said Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. president Ronald Mascariñas. "Imagine, for the past few weeks, they've been practicing twice a day.
"Their efforts should be rewarded," he added.
The Philippines, the 19th seed in the tournament, is currently situated in Pool C together with Russia (3rd), Brazil (8th), Mongolia (11th) and Canada (14th). The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout playoffs.
Though Mascariñas did not disclose the exact amount of the won-game bonus, he gave a rough estimate of it.
"If we give away more than Php2 million on top of our sponsorship, ibig sabihin nun nag-champion na tayo," Mascariñas shared.
The Philippines begins its campaign against Brazil on Saturday at 3:10 p.m.
