Pocari Sweat's Myla Pablo File
MANILA, Philippines — Titleholder Pocari-Air Force tries to stay on track of its semifinal drive as it tangles with Iriga-Navy today while PetroGazz and Tacloban clash in the quarterfinal round of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Lady Warriors trounced the PetroGazz Angels, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-21, late Saturday to join BaliPure-NU and BanKo-Perlas in the early lead in the single round phase of the season-opening conference organized by Sports Vision.
They shoot for the solo lead against the Lady Oragons, who have dropped their last seven games, including six in the elims.
Gametime is at 6:30 p.m. following the 4 p.m. tussle between the Angels and the Fighting Warays, who are both looking to bounce back from last weekend’s setbacks.
Despite ranged against a skidding team in Iriga-Navy whom it trounced in four in the elims, Pocari remains wary of its chances and stresses the need to improve on its reception and service.
“We have to stay focused. Our weakness is our reception and service. We always work on that in practice. If we execute well defensively as well as our first ball and service, our offense will follow,” said Pocari coach Jasper Jimenez.
The Lady Warriors rank second in service next to Creamline and third in reception after the BaliPure-Water Defenders and the Cool Smashers.
Air Force and Army, meanwhile, collide in the men’s division at 1 p.m.
