Blaze Spikers, Cargo Movers kick off best-of-3 title series

Showdown between Superliga’s super teams, Volleybelles

MANILA, Philippines — Powerhouse Petron and F2 Logistics rekindle their rivalry as they clash in yet another livewire duel for the crown beginning tonight in Game One of the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference Finals at Filoil Flying V Center.

The Blaze Spikers and the Cargo Movers mix it up for the fourth straight time, both highly determined to come on top in their latest battle for supremacy. Going to the best-of-three series kicking off at 7 p.m. tonight, the Petron belles enjoy a 2-1 head-to-head advantage against the Cargo Movers.

“Definitely, it will be a great match-up,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos, bracing for another tough showdown. “It all boils down to the heart of the players because both teams are good skill-wise and the coaches have their respective game plans.”

The Cargo Movers are out to redeem themselves after losing to the Blaze Spikers in the Grand Prix finals last summer, a campaign that saw them miss La Salle players and chief mentor Ramil de Jesus who were tied up with their UAAP duties then.

“The team had its shortcomings in the last Grand Prix,” said De Jesus, who gave coaching reins to Arnold Laniog last conference while calling the shots for the Lady Spikers in the collegiate league.

“If they will not give their full effort and play well, we will get the same result like we had in the Grand Prix. If they are thirsty for this title, the players have to show it inside the court,” he added.

The Petron-F2 tiff showcases some of the best volleyball talents around with Mika Reyes, Rhea Dimaculangan, Remy Palma, Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons spearheading the Blaze Spikers and of Cha Cruz-Behag, Ara Galang, Aby Marano and Kim Fajardo forming the tip of the Cargo Movers’ quest.

“The core of Petron has been together for a long time. They are a strong and deep team. They have a very good system,” said De Jesus. “We have to double our efforts and follow the game plan.”
