Prince Eze tip-in lifts Altas vs Stags

MANILA, Philippines — Prince Eze scored on a tip-in with less than a second to go, lifting Perpetual Help to a 78-76 victory over San Sebastian yesterday as the Altas kept their spot at No. 4 in the 94th NCAA seniors basketball tournament at the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta gym in Las Piñas.

Tied at 76 after Arjan dela Cruz drilled in a triple with 3.3 seconds to go, AJ Coronel set up Eze, who came through with the game-winner as time expired, capping the Altas’ fightback from 21 points down in the first half.

Perpetual thus improved to 3-2 while dealing SSC its fifth loss against three wins.

“I would really go to Prince (Eze) on that last shot. It wasn’t the prettiest shot but he made it,” said Perpetual Help coach Frankie Lim.

The Altas fell behind by 21 points in the first half but toughened up on defense while banking on Eze and Edgar Charcos on the other end.

Eze poured in nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and topped it with game-highs 18 rebounds and six shot blocks while Charcos scored all but one of his 18 points in the second half to help anchor the big Altas rally.
