Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet on despite 'Ompong'

MANILA, Philippines — Unfazed by the threat of super typhoon Ompong, around 4,500 athletes from 99 public and 23 private schools still slugged it out in the various elimination games in the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) meet which got going yesterday in Ormoc City.

DepEd Supt. Manuel Albaño said the sportsfest dubbed “Ormoc Siglaro 2018” will go on as long as the weather permits although all classes and sea trips in the city have been cancelled except for the early morning trips.

Acting mayor Leo Locsin Jr., meanwhile, said Ormoc is prepared for the eventuality of Ompong affecting the city. “We have prepared the rescue equipment, including our speedboat Lucy. All rescue vehicles have been gassed up, ready for deployment. We also have relief packs ready,” he said.
