Lions seek 12th win vs skidding Generals

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda hopes to keep unbeaten Lyceum of the Philippines U within sight as it clashes with a slumping Emilio Aguinaldo College side today in the 94th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

A full game behind the Pirates at 11-1, the reigning back-to-back champion Red Lions are fancied to notch their sixth straight victory against the Generals who, in contrast, are reeling from a five-game losing skein.

Gametime is at 4 p.m.

San Beda beat EAC, 61-46, in the first round.

Donald Tankoua is again expected to lead San Beda’s charge after dropping 19 points in a 74-68 victory over arch rivals Letran Knights last Sept. 11 that likewise saw him clinch the Player of the Week honors.

“He’s been doing those kinds of things silently since the start of the season. And I’m referring to giving us inside points, the rebounds and the interior defense,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez referring to Tankoua, who has been norming 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian shoots for a third straight win and fourth against nine setbacks as it tangles with Jose Rizal U, at the bottom of the 10-team field with a 2-10 card, at 2 p.m.
