Perlas Spikers subdue Warays
MANILA, Philippines — BanKo-Perlas overcame its struggle in the middle sets with a late charge in the third and a dominant showing in the fourth as it turned back Tacloban, 25-21, 23-25, 29-27, 25-18, to remain unscathed in five in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.
Amy Ahomiro came off the bench in the third and teamed up with Dzi Gervacio in the Perlas Spikers’ turnaround from a 15-21 deficit. They sustained their charge in the fourth while pouncing on the Fighting Warays’ struggle to dominate and firm up their hold of the solo lead in the season-ending conference of the league.
“I dug deep and turned to our bench (in the third set). ‘Yung pagpasok ni Amy (Ahomiro) saka Sue (Roces), nag-iba ang tempo ng laro. Na-off balance Tacloban doon kaya nakahabol kami (Amy and Sue’s entry in the third changed the tempo of the game. It threw Tacloban off balance, so we were able to come back),” said Spikers coach Dong dela Cruz.
Roces combined with Ahomiro, Nicole Tiamzon and Gervacio in BanKo-Perlas’ 11-3 windup in the fourth as the Spikers broke away from a 5-4 count.
