Vosotros sparks Caloocan's MPBL win over Imus
IMUS, Cavite – The Caloocan Supremos are looking good with Almond Vosotros around.
With the former national player and pro at the helm, the Supremos bested the Imus Bandera, 74-69, Wednesday night for their first back-to-back win in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball Lague Datu Cup.
Apart from pacing his team in scoring with 21 points, Vosotros also provided the court generalship as the Longrich-backed Supremos climbed to 4-8 in the South division of the 26-team league.
Egged on by the full house crowd at Imus City Sports Complex, the Bandera threatened at 62-63, but Vosotros, who was named best player twice in his first two games in the league, and Jess Mar Villahermosa teamed up to quash the rally with five and four free throws, respectively.
Rene Pacquiao, cousin of MPBL founder Sen. Manny Pacquiao, also shone for the Supremos of coach John Andrew Kallos with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds apart from three blocks.
The Bandera, who got 14 points each from Dan Irvin Alberto, Jonathan Rivera and Wilson Baltazar, slid to an even 6-6 slate.
Former pro Paulo Hubalde showed his offensive prowess in the opener as Valenzuela Classic trounced the Pampanga Lanterns, 90-82.
Hubalde, the league’s leader in assists with an average of 8.33 per game and second in steals with 2.75 an outing, scored a game-high 25 points, including four triples, for the Classic, who climbed to 4-8.
Other Classic in twin digits were Kido Cabrera and Chris de Chavez with 11 points each and Floyd Dedicatoria and Reneford Ruaya with 10 each.
The Lanterns fell into a tie with their tormentors despite the 22-point effort of Juneric Baloria, the 18-point output of Levi Hernandez and the 14-point contribution of Allen Enriquez.
